There is no interface learning curve: the interface fits whatever shortcuts work for your app, seeking to stay as out of the way as possible. Using the iPad app itself is an immediately comfortable experience. They will not affect your work, but it does serve as a reminder that we are in 2015, not 3015. The app refresh rate is high enough to eliminate any input lag there are, however, brief artifacts surrounding the area you are manipulating. Instead, Astropad displays a cropped virtualization of your Mac's screen – just fit it to your design app's canvas – that responds to input from the iPad's touch display. It mercifully skips additional setup for the app you're controlling. Astropad is not ahead of its time, or behind its time – it is exactly on time.įirst, it offers easily the most hassle-free iOS-to-Mac bridge setup I've ever experienced, as though all the setup mistakes of prior devs were analyzed and corrected in Astropad. And it's precisely at this point in the iPad’s evolution that the developers of Astropad have returned boldly to the question of how best to pair an iPad with a Mac. The iPad became truly its own thing, and no one but Microsoft thinks tablets should replace laptops anymore. Luckily, innovative app developers used the iPad's increased processing power and larger input surface area to take mobile app development to dazzling heights, excising it from the entrenched role of desktop app development's little brother. When the iPad was introduced many were intrigued by the device, but measured its worth by comparing it to the desktop experience. ![]() The sun just started to shine outside my window!Īstropad turns your iPad into a graphics tablet. I opted for CRT, which gives a beautiful softness to the games, taking me back to the early 90s when TVs had giant backs and took up half of the living room. Retro fans can stick with the classic CRT filter, or you can opt for the 4:3 aspect ratio, or even go the full hog and use “Pixel Perfect” for the most crisp look. On the plus side, three different display formats mean that you can beautify the games a little. Players such as myself, who wear rose-tinted specs when it comes to ‘90s gaming, won’t be as put-off by such issues as newcomers, but it’s certainly a fly in the ointment. There will be some games where the frame rate dips in an intense moment Star Fox, in particular, becomes almost unplayable at times. The one downside is that these are exact ports of their original versions, warts and all. What’s great is that many of them are the direct sequels to games on the NES Mini, so for those lucky enough to own both consoles, you get to see the evolution of the likes of Punch-Out!! and Ghosts ’n Goblins. I could go on for hours about the titles missing from the box – I’m still weeping over the absence of Aladdin – but there’s no doubt that the miniature SNES is loaded with stone-cold classics. ![]() The SNES has fewer games than the NES Classic Mini but, arguably, this is because the SNES goes for quality over quantity. The controllers are full-size versions of their ‘90s counterparts, and feel excellent too. The front of the console is still home to the classic controller ports – pulling down a flap reveals modern inputs, those included on both the Mini NES and Wii peripherals. As you’d expect, the eject button has no function I’ll most certainly miss ejecting cartridges as you would toast from a toaster in the digital age. Thankfully, the SNES’s base doesn’t sport the fade yellow of my old box. The textured plastic case even has the “feel” of the original NES. The console is a perfectly recreated version of the console I spent my childhood playing, one that will easily fit into the palm of my hand. The benefit of Nintendo staying true to its roots, however, is in the SNES you have an absolutely gorgeous-looking machine. This is perhaps an example of Nintendo sticking a little too rigidly to the retro feel. The SNES controller hasn’t had any extra functionality added, and it lacks a home button of the type seen on the PS4 and Xbox One. For example, if you launch a game then the only way to back out to the main menu is by hitting the reset button and then choosing another. This feels deliberate on Nintendo’s part, since much of the functionality we’ve now become accustomed to on the controller is part of the SNES console itself. The added length may still prove insufficient in some setups, though, which means you’ll always need to be within arm’s reach of the SNES itself. This doesn’t change the fact that cables of any sort remain a faff, but it will at least help make setup a little more convenient. Where the NES’s measured 3ft, Nintendo confirmed ahead of launch that the SNES’s cables are 2ft longer. ![]() The SNES Mini comes with two controllers, both sporting longer cables than their NES counterparts. Related: Nintendo Switch Review Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES –Hardware and games Thankfully, the company has taken on board some of the criticisms of the first console with the development of its successor, creating a better miniature that will no doubt fly off the shelves once again. The NES Classic Mini sold like hotcakes when it launched last year, so it’s no surprise that Nintendo is back one year on with a miniature version of the console’s successor, the SNES. ![]() ![]() However, you do not need to comment on both the Surf City Squeeze Facebook post and Instagram post to be an Entrant and doing so will not increase your odds of winning. The next day if you make some changes to file "A" using your PC, those changes get automatically copied to the file "A" on your external drive. What is File Sync Software?įile sync software is used to store the copies of on-premise data on other devices or cloud. Let's have basic information about file sync software, why is it required and the features to look for while selecting one, as that would help you in choosing the software that best suits your business. The file synchronization process is supposed to be simple & secure to ensure that your organization eliminates all the issues relating to data security and compliance, and at the same time, delivers competent products and services to the clients.Ī well-featured file sync software can solve these issues and help you in eliminating the problems within your organization like miscommunication, errors, frauds, delays, and inevitable losses. Lack of file synchronization can cause data conflicts resulting in errors, poor performance, and low productivity. There are different processes in a single business - for example, operations, marketing, recruiting, customer support, finance, etc., and ensuring that the same data is available to all the team members working in these different processes is itself a challenge. You would agree to this fact that organizing your business data across various devices is not as simple as it sounds. File synchronization ensures that two or more data storage devices, computers, or programs have the same information at a given time. Don’t forget, though, that the term township was also used to indicate a small geographic area within a county. If you see phrases including halves, quarters, sections, townships, and ranges, it is safe to say that you are dealing with a deed described in Rectangular Survey. Knowing these terms can help you understand whether or not your deed was described in Rectangular Survey, as well as help you get a sense of how much property was bought before you even draw out the description. The following are Federal Land States, and thus you should expect to graph land from these states:Īs with Metes and Bounds land platting, it is helpful to know some of the terms or phrases that you should expect to see in a Rectangular Survey land deed. As mentioned in Part I, the State Land States generally used Metes and Bounds, which requires land platting. Federal Land StatesĪs a reminder – Rectangular Survey was used primarily in the Federal Land States. Many schools were built in Section 16 of their township, or the proceeds from sales in that section were designated specifically to fund public education. On an interesting note- Section 16 of each township was set apart specifically for public education. This land was then sold in portions of the sections, often divided in halves, quarters, etc. These townships would be further divided into 1-square-mile sections, for a total of 36 sections per township. ![]() It involved dividing up the land into square townships that measured 6 miles along each side. This was called the Public Land Survey System. On May 20, 1785, the United States passed the Land Ordinance of 1785, which set precedent for how the government’s acquired land would be divided up and sold. ![]() Graphing refers to land described using the Rectangular Survey system. Land Graphing, just as land platting, involves drawing out the land description found in a land record, usually a land grant (the first sale of the land from the government to an individual) or a land deed (subsequent sales of the land between individuals). Land platting, however, is only half of the equation! Here in Part II we’ll talk about Land graphing, which is similar to platting but used in different situations. In Part I of this two-part series, we discussed the importance of Land Platting – drawing out property boundaries as given in land records. These records do more than simply record where an ancestor lived or what property they owned they can be a wealth of information about relationships, economic status, and much more! ![]() Land records are an incredibly important resource when doing genealogy research in the United States. ![]() One of the best-known European alchemists, the 16th-century Swiss physician Philippus Aureolus Paracelsus, called the aether element “the substance of stars and souls.” Isaac Newton, a passionate alchemist, described it as “the perfect Elixir. Others thought it contained all the other elements within it. To some, quintessence was a subtle substance found in some degree in each of the other four elements. Alchemy was a secretive and enigmatic art with endless interpretations. The ultimate goal was to turn immature base metals like lead into higher metals like gold by releasing their perfect state, or quintessence.īut what exactly was quintessence? That depends on which alchemist you ask. The theory, then, was that by distilling a substance down to its elemental form and creating the perfect balance and proportions of the different elements, you could purify matter and transmute one substance into another. Metals were all composed of the four elements, but were in different stages of maturity on their way to spiritual perfection. The underlying belief was that metals were alive and growing, and could change into other substances. The trick was freeing it.Īristotle believed the four physical elements were changeable, and alchemists took this idea and ran with it. A bit of godly essence was hidden in all things, whether animal, plant, or mineral. To them, it described the most pristine and perfect essence found in nature, which they called “quintessence.” They too saw quintessence (so named from the Latin phrase qüinta essentia, meaning “fifth essence”) as divine, but believed it was found on Earth as well as in the heavens. In Plato’s theory of the cosmos, he writes that there are different kinds of air and “the brightest part is called the aether.”Īlchemy, the magical medieval proto-science, came into vogue in the Western world in the 12th and 13th centuries, when the texts of the Greek and Arab philosophers were translated into Latin and European scholars finally got wind of these ancient ideas.Īlchemists dusted off the antique concept of aether and put a new spin on it. This bright, divine Aether was the classical philosophers’ version of our upper atmosphere. Aether was also a Greek god, one of the first-born deities in the pantheon, the primordial god of light and the sky. The word “aether” comes from the Greek aithêr, meaning “upper air.” The Greeks’ mythology described the pure air that the gods breathed in the heavens as opposed to the normal air breathed by mortals on Earth, and went further than that. In Greek mythology it described the pure air that the gods breathed in the heavens as opposed to the normal air breathed by mortals on Earth. It may be the most enduring imaginary concept in scientific history.Īether was invented by the ancients. Yet aether does not exist, and it never did. Centuries later, early modern scientists like René Descartes and Nikola Tesla were still pointing to aether to explain fundamental natural phenomena like gravity and light. To the medieval alchemists, it was the fabled philosopher’s stone that could turn lead into gold and prolong life. Ancient Greeks saw aether as the god of light and the fifth element of the universe. |
